Chorister Covenant
Seattle Children’s Chorus offers a specialized choral experience for musically-gifted youth. Participation in the upper levels of our program–the regionally and nationally recognized Arioso and
Camerata choirs–is a privilege. Participation also requires recognition of the following:
- A nine-month partnership between choristers and conductor is established through weekly rehearsals.
- A partnership between chorister and conductor is established at rehearsals.
- Each chorister’s role as part of a team is significant.
- It is difficult, if not impossible, to make up important ensemble work on an individual basis at home.
- Rehearsals move at an accelerated pace, covering a larger amount of demanding literature.
- Choristers rely on other singers in their section to share challenging parts.
- Valuable performance opportunities at home and abroad are scheduled.
In order to promote the dedication required of our older participants, we are asking our Arioso and Camerata members to carefully read and consider this agreement:
- Participation in Arioso and Camerata is a nine-month covenant between chorister/parent and the conductor/chorus. I agree to regularly participate in all rehearsals, retreats, and concerts from September through May of this coming year.
- I will carefully adhere to this commitment, following the Chorister Handbook guideline: two excused absences per half year (phone call to office). Excused absences are illness, family vacation/emergency, or mandatory school obligation.
- I will not take on conflicting activities that disrupt my nine-month agreement. If other seasonal activities come along (sports, musicals, etc.), with the help of my parents I will honestly evaluate my ability to keep this commitment by answering the following questions:
- Will I miss weekly SCC rehearsals?
- Will I miss major SCC performances?
- Will the supervisor of the other activity accept my involvement with SCC and be willing to reach a compromise allowing me to successfully participate in both activities?
- Have I had a personal conversation with my SCC conductor prior to accepting another commitment? (Notification to the office is not adequate.)
Being part of Arioso or Camerata is a privilege requiring maturity and dedication. My signature below indicates that I understand the requirements of participating in Arioso/Camerata.
