Poco a Poco (3-6 Years)

Poco a Poco is SCC’s early music education program.  Children will learn beginning music appreciation through rhythm, musical play and fun.  At the end of each session the children will perform a showcase open to families and friends.  Poco a Poco currently is open to children aged 3-6 and meets Tuesdays in Shoreline, directed by Gillian Malacari at Calvin Presbyterian Church, and on Thursdays in Marysville at Mountain View Presbyterian Church, directed by Becca Kreutz.   There are three sessions in the 2016-2017 season and two different classes per session at each of our two locations in Shoreline and Marysville.

SCC_-10We welcome Gillian Malacari back to Shoreline for our 2016-2017 season after her year away with her family in Australia!  Gillian has her Bachelor of Music Education with Honors from the University of Western Australia majoring in Primary and Secondary Education and String Pedagogy (violin). Her Honors thesis was on ethnomusicology and she became interested in how different cultures approach music education.  Gillian has a strong belief that voice exploration and movement activities, in early childhood music education are one of the most robust ways to develop well-rounded musicians who feel confident interacting with music for life.

Becca KreutzBecca Kreutz received her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Wheaton College’s Conservatory of Music, after which she spent a year of studying opera at Roosevelt University’s Chicago of the Performing Arts.   She is thrilled to be continuing as director of Poco a Poco at our Marysville location.    As an alumna of SCC, whose twelve years in the organization profoundly shaped her understanding and experience of music, she feels honored to be a part of continuing that legacy with a new generation of choristers.

Together, Gillian and Becca will provide and present a cohesive fun curriculum for both Shoreline and Marysville Poco a Poco!
